Bird ID Walks
with Joe DeMarco or Rebecca Lesko
Friday, May 17 at 9-11 am
Walks & practice in the field at various local hot spots
Spring is coming, and so are the birds. Northward migration has already begun in the western hemisphere. Soon, we'll see the return of those that breed in Wyoming County and those that use our fields, forests, and waters as resting spots on their way to breeding grounds further north. Are there any Common Grackles around your neighborhood yet?
The Endless Mountains Nature center wants to help you identify all these birds. Knowing what birds to expect and knowing how to identify them can add to your enjoyment of spring. Learn a new skill or sharpen your skills in bird identification.
Bird walks and practice in the field. We'll determine what trails to use based on bird activity in the area, but we'll be sure to search Lake Carey, the Susquehanna River, and one or two walking paths in "birdy" areas.
FREE and open to adults and serious teens. To register email or call 570-836-3835 to reserve your spot.

Instructors Biographies:
Jim and Joan Borden are avid outdoor photographers. Their portfolios contain images of bald eagles, hawks, elk, deer, bear, moose, backyard birds, butterflies, and small mammals, as well as stunning landscapes. The Bordens use pro Nikon equipment. They are in the top five winners in the 2009 Maine Moose Photography Contest and are published in the Bangor Metro Maine Summer Guide. Jim and Joan are juried photographer for the South East Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina.
Jim Bordren: In a family of avid outdoorsmen, Jim was provided a sound basis for interacting with wildlife. He learned to be an ethical and humane sportsman. During the 1970's Jim started taking a Minolta SRT 101 camera on hunts. He found as much enjoyment from photographing wildlife as he did from hunting.
Jim started using digital cameras in 2000 and fully converted to digital SLR photography in 2006. In addition to the publications mentioned previously Jim's work has been published in Precision Shooting Magazine, and one of his images graced the cover of the Maine Sporting Journal.
Joan Borden: Grewing up in Cowanesque, Pennsylvania her early years were around farm animals and in the woods with her parents. She had a keen interest in photography and loved taking landscape, floral, and bird pictures. She has also developed an interest in wildlife photography and has enjoyed waiting on stand for moose, elk, deer and other wild animals.
The Bordens endeavor to capture images while avoiding stress of the animals. They have been diligent at learning bald eagle habits and have kept close watch of a number of eagle nests, tracking activity, births, and fledging. They report their findings to the PA Game Commission.
